February is Indoor Rowing Month
Have you ever wondered why the indoor rower is the only exercise “machine” in our Crossfit box? Did you know that indoor rowing is a fast growing sport as well as part of the Crossfit games?
The indoor rowing season is now in full swing with many regional and state championships taking place the first weekend in February. The local NYAC ‘St. Valentines Day Massacre’ takes place in Pelham next Saturday and on February 17th the annual World Indoor Rowing Championships ie; Crash-B Sprints, returns to Boston.
Indoor regattas are open to all comers. There is no qualification required. Just a willingness to work hard and have fun, in pursuit of your best 2K time on the Erg. 2000 meters is the standard race distance for the sport of rowing, both on-water and indoors. Crossfit rowing competition usually takes place over distances ranging from 500 to 1000 meters. Rowing your best 500 or 2000m on the Concept2 indoor rower is a very challenging test of fitness and mental toughness.
